Pablo Barragán Hernández

  • Clarinet

Pablo was born in 1987 in Marchena, Spain, and began playing the piano at the age of four. Later, he studied the saxophone, which led him to discover the clarinet—a connection that sparked an immediate passion for the instrument. He studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Castillo in Seville and later continued his education at the Musikakademie in Basel. His first orchestral experience was with the Youth Orchestra of Andalusia under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. After graduating from the Barenboim-Said Academy, Pablo joined the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in 2007. He has also performed with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Among the conductors he has worked with are Pierre Boulez, Asher Fisch, Heinz Holliger, and Pedro Halffter.

Among the awards he has received are First Prize at the Concurso Permanente de Jóvenes Intérpretes and a Special Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. As art is a source of inspiration for him, he enjoys visiting galleries and museums in his free time, and he loves to experience a good coffee in the company of friends.
